Universities will raise entry requirements for the most competitive degree courses, from next September. Many courses at, for example, Russell group universities. are expected to ask for three AAA grades at A level.
Entry grades will rise for a whole range of subjects including: civil, chemical and environmental engineering, law, history, architecture, sociology, social policy, theology, pharmacology, accounting and geology. In addition, some home student places will be axed to make way for increasing numbers of international student places - as cash-strapped universities need the extra income this latter group bring.
