New Courses and Events -
Gain skills, get experience, get ahead
Imagine you’re a university admissions tutor and you have two candidates with equal qualifications but only one place on a course available. Both your candidates went to good schools, both studied and gained the same qualifications and both have great references from their teachers. You’ve read their personal statements and these are equally as good so what do you do? How do you decide who gets the place and who doesn’t? Tricky, but there is one thing that one of the candidates has done that the other has not = Gained Experience

Experience means that your chosen candidate already knows what it's like to study a subject or work in a particular career. Experience has helped them to decide that this is right for them already, not after their first day! Experience means that they already have some of the skills they need in order to succeed.

Experience matters but when companies are cutting back on internships / work experience places and finding a decent summer job is like finding a needle in a haystack how can you get the experience you need to get ahead and succeed with your applications?

We know how important gaining skills and experience are and that is why we have created Futurewise Courses and Events. These offer you the opportunity to gain experience, learn new skills and meet with leading employers and universities so you can be better prepared when making applications.

Gap and Volunteering Shows – To start off you could volunteer your services for free and get experience by helping others. Through volunteering you can show how you are a good communicator, problem solver, ideas person, leader and much more. We run free to attend Gap and volunteering shows across the country each year. You can come along and speak with like minded individuals and organisations and find out ways in which you can get experience through a Gap break and volunteering.

Skills Development Training – Business and Interview skills are very important and we run a number of personal skills development sessions with a professional skills trainer. You can learn about how to succeed at interviews as well as develop core body language and presentation skills to become an effective leader.

Insight Visits – Only by visiting employers or higher education premises, and through talking with professionals, can you really find out about a career or study area. Our Insight visits offer you just this - a day to find out more about a particular industry or subject.

Career Experience Events – Have you ever wondered what it's really like to submit an architecture application to the Royal Institute of British Architects, or how to sell a new iPod to retailers and a whole generation of customers? These are just two of our career experience events where you can try hands on what it's like to do some of the tasks in a particular career area as well as meet with professionals and other motivated students. Usually held at leading universities you can also have a look round a potential place of study at the same time.

Futurewise courses and events are designed to give you skills and experiences which you can write about when you are making your UCAS application. They can be used as part of your personal statement to show you have researched a particular career or study area. Futurewise courses and evens  are open to all students aged 16 and over on the day of the event.
